Kelsey Bateman, remembered for her appearance on VH1’s Rock of Love Bus with Bret Michaels, has died at 39. Her family confirmed the news to TMZ and described her death as unexpected, though no cause has been shared publicly.
Back in 2009, Bateman was only 21 when she joined the show’s third and final season. Alongside 22 other contestants, she traveled with Poison frontman Bret Michaels on his tour buses, all while competing for his attention. The season was filled with drama, and Bateman stayed in the mix until the seventh episode, placing her among the last nine women in the competition.
However, her journey ended after a night of partying with fellow cast members Farrah Sinclair and Ashley Klarich. During that episode, she admitted she had gotten “wasted,” and cameras later showed her lying on a speed bump near the concert venue. Michaels recalled noticing she had disappeared mid-show and later confronted her, saying she was trying too hard to be someone she wasn’t and was leaning too heavily on alcohol.
As a result, he decided it was time for her to leave. Bateman brushed it off with a joke, remarking that Michaels probably couldn’t handle “a girl that likes to get drunk and lay on speed bumps.” She later said her next boyfriend wouldn’t be a 44-year-old rock star.
The season wrapped up with Michaels choosing Taya Parker, though their relationship fizzled soon after. Instead of continuing Rock of Love for a fourth season, VH1 pivoted in 2010 to a new show, Bret Michaels: Life as I Know It. That series showcased his life with longtime partner Kristi Lynn Gibson, who later became his wife in 2013. Together, they have two daughters, Raine and Jorja.
After leaving reality TV, Bateman began working at Vox Nutrition in 2016 as a senior sales lead. The West Jordan, Utah–based company specializes in supplements, tablets, capsules, and skincare products.
In her later years, she lived in Salt Lake City.

There is no evidence that Bateman ever tied the knot, and she never addressed her relationship status publicly. The only clue about her private life came in late 2022, when she posted a Facebook photo showing a man leaning in and kissing her cheek.

In September 2017, she celebrated her grandfather Kenneth Bateman’s 89th birthday, writing that she was thankful to spend the day with him and surprised he had reached that milestone.
Sadly, Kenneth died the following year, on August 20, 2018. A graduate of Brigham Young University, he had also served in the U.S. Army.
