David Stanford Kellett was the ex-husband of notorious Australian convict Katherine Knight. In fact, Knight is the first woman to be sentenced to life imprisonment without parole in Australia’s history. Kellett and Knight were married for around ten years in which they also became parents to a couple of children.

David Stanford Kellett Early Life, Parents, and Siblings

Kellett was born somewhere around 1951 in Australia. However, his exact birthday is not known as of now. Moreover, he only came to fame for being the ex-husband of notorious Australian criminal, Katherine Knight, so, there is pretty little information about his early life, parents, and siblings as of yet.

David met his future wife, Katherine Knight in 1973 at work. They soon came close and started dating. Back then, Knight was popular for physically threatening anyone who upset her and she would always step in and back Kellett whenever he got into a fight.

David Stanford Kellett and Katherine Knight got married in 1974, at her request. When the pair arrived at the service, Knight’s mother gave him some advice. She told him,

“You better watch this one or she’ll fu**ing kill you. Stir her up the wrong way or do the wrong thing and you’re fu**ed. Don’t ever think of playing up on her [cheating on her], she’ll fu**in’ kill you.”

Their marriage turned violent on their wedding night itself. Knight allegedly tried to strangle her newlywed husband, Kellett because he fell asleep after only having sex three times.

Their Violent Marriage – Kellett Left Her After Abuse

Kellett and Knight’s marriage was never out of violence. When Knight was pregnant with the couple’s first child, she burned Kellett’s all clothes and shoes, and afterward, she hit him on the back of his head with a frying pan. It was later revealed that she did that because Kellett arrived home late from a dart competition.

To save his life, Kellett fled to his neighbor’s house where he passed out shortly later. He was then treated for a severely fractured skull. Police wanted to charge her for attacking her husband, however, she somehow convinced her then-husband to drop the charges.

In 1976, shortly after the birth of their first child, Kellett left Knight for another woman after he was fed up with her abusive behaviors. After he left her, Knight went crazy and was seen pushing her newborn baby in a pram and throwing the pram from side to side.

Not only that, she put her daughter on a railway line shortly before a train was due. Luckily, a man known as “Old Ted” rescued the baby before the train passed. Afterward, Knight was admitted to the Morisset Psychiatric Hospital after she threatened a boy with a knife.

When she was released from the hospital, Kellett again started living together in August 1976. Later in 1984, Knight left Kellett and they started living separately.

Kellett and Knight were married from 1974 to 1984. In their ten years long marriage, the former couple welcomed two children together. They gave birth to their first child, a daughter Melissa Ann in May 1976. Four years later on October 6, 1980, the then-husband and wife welcomed their second daughter, Natasha Maree together.

Katherine was born and raised in an unconventional and dysfunctional family environment. She was violent from her early days and when she was a high school student, she used to stand over smaller children. She later started working at an abattoir which possibly gave rise to her criminal mentality.

After Knight’s marriage to Kellett, she used to display bizarre behaviors. Despite their tumultuous relationship, Knight and Kellett remained married for around a decade. Knight’s psychotic actions further increased when she stayed in a relationship with two other men, David Saunders, and John Chillingworth.

Meanwhile, when she started dating John Price in the mid-1990s, she appeared as a changed woman initially, however, when John refused to marry her, she went nuts. She videotaped the items that Price allegedly stole from his work and sent them to his boss. As a consequence, he was fired from the job. Following that, Price kicked Knight out of his house.

A few months later, Price restarted the relationship, however, this time, their relationship was much more violent. In February 2000, Knight stabbed Price in the chest after which he kicked her out of their house again.

On 29th February, he had taken out a restraining order to keep Knight away from him and his children. When Price arrived home, he found out that Knight had sent his two children for a sleepover at a friend’s house.

He then spent the evening with his neighbors and went to bed at around 11. His then-girlfriend, meanwhile, came late and woke Price up and the two had sex before he fell asleep again. She then stabbed him to death with her knives. The next day, police found his body skinned, beheaded, and partially roasted.

For the murder, Knight was sentenced to life imprisonment without parole in November 2001.
